We tried it....

We tried it this evening..and we liked it.

What is "it" you might ask???
Well..."it" is... grass fed, organic, hormone free buffalo meat.
Wow! It was delicious too.
We bought a pound of it at our local Publix meat department in the "Greenwise" section of the meat department display.
I prepared burgers from it by adding only one egg, and simply using a little salt and pepper, and putting into a pan that was sprayed with extra virgin olive oil.
A very lean meat and almost tasted like a steak, but in burger form.
I payed $6.99 a pound for it, and could have easily gotten 5 juicy burgers from the pound, but made 4 ; 1/4 pound burgers instead.
I figure if I can get 5 burgers from the pound..that I am looking at about $1.39 per person..that is about what one could expect to pay for a greasy burger at a fast food place that is full of who knows what?? and maybe has even sat under heat lamps all day..bleccckkk.
...but with the buffalo meat..it is organic and grass fed meat with no preservatives or other unknowns in the meat...and what a difference in taste too!
We don't eat beef related products very often here..mostly we eat chicken..but we will certainly buy the buffalo meat again the next time we have a hankering for a burger.
I definitely recommend giving it a try.
---------------------
Had a nice day here today. Had to stop by the feed store to get more duck feed for "Daffy". I found out that they will be getting in a shipment at the end of the month ..of baby chicks..
Aracaunas, Rhode Island Reds, and Buff Orpingtons.
The Aracaunas are the type that lay the easter egg looking eggs...in blues and greens.
Yes...I will probably go back and get an aracauna chick.
As I know my children would love to see the easter egg looking eggs. I know my oldest daughter Naomi would probably like to make craft items from the blown colored eggs too.
--------------------------------
I'm working on crafting a few Christmas gifts for both my mom, and my mother in law, but alas..I cannot post the images here because..well..the recipients like to peek in on my blog to see what I'm up to..hee hee.
I did finish the yo-yo garland that I mentioned a while back..it wound up being about 5 yards long or so.
I'll use it on the tree this year of course.
--------------------
Well..I hope that you all have a very lovely weekend.

Sounds like you are back in the swing of things. Just don't over do it. I use to have Rhode Island Red chickens. They are great egg layers. Hope you and yours have a blessed day.

Love to hear how the chickens work out, I want to get some for those lovely fresh egggs. I believe I will wait until the Spring as we are heading into the cold season now. Thank you for the heads up about the buffalo meat. I will have to try some, I know there are places in WI that raise them. Pretty sure they should have some here also.

Stay well, Barbara

I've often wondered what buffalo meat was like but the price kept me from trying it, till now? I just might have to? But I always thought you might have to add beef to it to make patties? Interesting!
